I am including a separate category for still lifes I’ve painted as I consider them an important part of the canon of historical painting. Again, they are exercises in process as demanded by materials. The choice of subject is not intentionally symbolic. Its arrangement is to a certain extent intentional but not always. I’m fine with chaos. The idea is to make a picture which makes sense according to its own internal logic. In this sense, the challenge is identical to that involved in the creation of any picture, “realistic” or otherwise.
